Tony and Isa at the Florida Ironman finish

On August 26th, 2004 Tony Serrano was killed when struck by a car while cycling. Tony was 35. He was a husband, a father to 2 young daughters, a triathlete, and a friend. We formed a group to organize a charity bicycle ride both in Tony's honor and to benefit his family.

The inaugural Tony Serrano Memorial Ride was held on October 31, 2004 and over 200 riders participated. The ride raised $7,000 for a college fund set up for Tony's children, and for Georgia Bikes! to assist with the publishing and distributing of the Georgia Bicycle Law Enforcement Pocket Guide to law enforcement communities across Georgia.

Special thanks to All3Sports and Cycleworks-Duluth for making the 2004 ride a success.

A Note From Dave Ragland

Dear Friends,

This is truly the hardest letter I have ever had to write in my life. On Thursday, August 26 at approximately 5:00 A.M., my very good friend and training partner, Tony Serrano, was killed in a cycling accident while training for Ironman Wisconsin. Tony was two weeks away from competing in this year's IM Wisconsin. I want to take a moment of your time to let you know a little bit about my friend.

That morning, Tony left his house around 4:00 a.m. to get in his mid-week bike ride. He was scheduled to ride for approximately 2 ½ hours. He met up with Brian Mock for the ride. The two were riding up Peachtree Industrial Blvd north of I-285. After crossing the intersection of McGinnis Ferry and Peachtree Industrial, the two moved over into a right turn lane to move away from traffic. Without notice, both Brian and Tony were hit by a car from behind. Brian was grazed by the car, pushed left of the car and eventually crashed his bike (he was not seriously hurt). Tony was hit squarely from behind by the car and was thrown over the car and was killed upon impact.

As many of you know, Tony was one of my best friends, and a great guy. Tony was always there with an encouraging word (after he had dropped you on a tough hill), or lending you a helping hand with your bike (me especially) or doing anything for you with a smile. Tony was a true gentleman and a saint. Tony was a great husband to Kathy, and a great father to his two children, Isa and Zohe.

I hope that everyone who knew Tony will take a moment to pray for Tony and his family during this trying time.

I will truly miss my friend.
